Welcome to our School

Hello and Welcome

Examination Success

This summer the success of Willowgarth pupils in GCSE equivalent exams surpassed all previous years with a record high pass rate.

71.2% of our pupils gained 5 or more A* - C equivalent passes this summer.

The reasons for this success are relatively simple. Pupils study the most appropriate courses for their individual ability and their future careers - they are supported, guided and cared for during their time at Willowgarth and they enjoy what they are doing. However, we are not an "examination factory", and this website will demonstrate  to you what a good school Willowgarth is continuing to be.

For the past two years Willowgarth has had the highest value added score of any school in Yorkshire and Humberside and has been in the top 20 nationally.

"The leadership and management of the school, including its governance are good. This is clearly demonstrated by the recent overall improvement in the performance of the school".

Letter from Jim Knight MP Minister of State for Schools and Learners.

Dear Mr Loveday,

I am delighted to congratulate you and your school on the excellent performance you have demonstrated at Key Stage 4 in the 2007 Achievement and Attainment Tables published today.

The results for your school show that you are amongst the top performing schools based on the KS2-4 Contextual Value Added measure.

Nationally, there has not only been another impressive increase in the proportion of pupils achieving 5 or more GCSEs or equivalent at grades A* - C but we have already met the 2008 target of at least 60 per cent of pupils achievieng that levele with 60.8 per cent of pupils achieving the indicator. We also continue to see improvements in the numbers of pupils performing well in the basics - the proportion of pupils achieving a good pass in English and Mathematics has risen again this year. This continued progress is an excellent achievement and evidence of the effective efforts of all those involved in raising standards in our schools.

Please pass on my thanks and congratulations to your pupils, staff and governors for their hard work and success, and I send my best wishes for sustained improvement in the year ahead.

As you know the 5+ A* - C GCSEs (and equivalent) including English and Mathematics GCSE results are an equally important measure fo a schools performance. I trust this excellent work you are doing on pupil progress will see a rise in those results in the coming years.

I am sending a copy of this letter to your local Member of Parliament.

Jim Knight MP
