Hi, Willowgarth,I used to like coming to school. I have to say I had some great times there. I can remember most of my teachers. Above all, my best teacher was Mr Beswick. He used to teach Pneumatics and English. I can also say my music teacher, Mr. Smith, was excellent. He was a very funny man.
So I would like to say thank you, Mr Beswick.
Dave

Hi,
We have looked at your web site and found a few more photos would be an improvement. Like photos of students working in all subjects and in the Link area, but other than that Gr8t Web Site. Willowgarth has changed alot after I left in 1998.
Thanks to the following teachers.
Mr. Beswick, Mr. Lean, Mrs. Bone, Mr. Bone, Mr. Bond, Mr. Blackburn, Mr. Bunce.

Hello over there. Bored over here at work. Got a few hours off so I thought I would see what had changed. Having an excellent time over here in the army in Germany. Most of my determination and success came from what I learnt at this school. So to all the teachers who knew or taught me --- All the best and keep up the good work.Gary Back to top

Hello,It was good to see that Willowgarth has a website that I accidentally stumbled across. I left Willowgarth in 1989 and still have fond memories of going to school there, except cross country running down the dell and back through the Coalite yard! I still live in Barnsley and after leaving college in 1992 joined the Lord
Chancellor's Department as a Civil Servant within the Court Service. After 7 years of that I joined the fire service in Sheffield and have moved around the various departments and now work as a Fire Control Operator.
I hope Willowgarth goes from strength to strength and believe me when I say the school years are really some of the best years of your life.

Came across the site a couple of months ago and it was a pleasant surprise. Good to see the school is so well remembered. Also good to see Dave Mckenzie is still going strong. All those places I once read about in geography lessons I've now been fortunate enough to have visited as a film cameraman - from the polar ice caps to tundra, deserts, rain forests, mountain ranges, great rivers and most major and minor capital cities. I hope some of the current students get the same chances to travel in the future. It's a long time since I was in touch with my old A level geography teacher Kath Ward, do you have any contact details?
Oh and by the way, some names to enter onto the Milefield Middle School photo. Second left, middle row is Mark Redhall, fifth left middle row is Gillian Atkinson.
Any photos of the football teams circa 1971/2?
Regards
Tony Coldwell

What a wonderful website. Memories come flooding back as I read familiar names, unfortunately I can't put faces to half of them! I attended Willowgarth from 1965 - 1971 when Mrs Smith took needlework, Mr Betteridge took French and Mr Whitehead was choir master - wasn't he the one who resembled Peter Glaze from Crackerjack? They were happy, happy days. The 25 year re-union in 1995 was great, would someone let me know if another is to be planned for 35 years?Good luck to all associated with Willowgarth.
Pauline

Hello to all the staff, past and present.I left Willowgarth in 1974 with no qualifications and no idea of what I wanted to do in life. I soldiered on and educated myself along the way, so to speak. I have lived and worked in and around the Middle East for the last 17 years. I work for an American Energy Services Group as Regional IT Coordinator.
With regard to the photograph of the under 14 rugby team, the two guys on the back row between Rob Archer and Mr. McKenzie are Chris France and Mick Barker. I too should have been on the photo but was no doubt up to no good somewhere.
Best Wishes to all for the future.

What a school this was. Had good times and some bad ones, but all in all a good school with some good teachers. Wishing all the best to old and new teachers and thanks to those who taught me.mailto:joanne@w9000.fsnet.co.uk Back to top

I have been meaning to get in touch with the web site for the school for some time now. I am Tony Spittle. Born and brought up in Grimethorpe until I was seventeen. I left the school in 1969. I then went into the army. Left at twenty one. Got married and joined the West Yorkshire Police. All that time ago. Still here and can retire in two years. Married Lorraine Ennis 26 years ago and have two grown up kids.Tony
