The Practical Courses

This is a very popular area of the curriculum. All pupils try this course at various times from Year 7 to Year 11. BTEC Hospitality and Catering and GCSE Cateringare offered in years 10 and 11, along with Resistant Materials and Graphic Products GCSE.
There are two well-equipped workshops.
Woodwork
This workshop has a full range of traditional hand tools combined with larger machinery including lathes, pillar drill, disc sander, polisher and morticing machine.
Metal and Plastic work
The facilities in this workshop include three heat treatment areas for casting, welding and brazing, smaller hand tools and also a range of electric saws, lathes and shaping equipment.
In addition to these workshops, there is an area that is dedicated to computer aided design and manufacture. Mr. Rooke is in charge of this area. The aim of this area is to encourage pupils to use new technology to produce good quality, professional products.
Obvious links with processes carried out in industry can be analysed and practiced in a safe school environment.
