The Individual Needs Department
Miss Chamberlain (see photo above) coordinates the work of the Curriculum Support Assistants. The help that these "CSAs" give to children working in the link and in classrooms is extremely valuable. Miss Chamberlain is responsible for all matters relating to pupils' individual needs: diagnosis of need, review of statements, co-ordination of school-based assessment, provision of support and management of support staff, liaison with parents' agencies, departments and feeder schools and individual education plans. She is a child abuse liaison teacher.Does your child have Special Educational Needs? Do you wish to be certain that your child's needs will receive a high degree of attention and care? Do you want to be actively involved in your child's learning and achievement?
If you have answered YES to those questions, you obviously wish your child to grow in confidence at school and Willowgarth is the school to achieve your goals!

The department works vigorously to identify and meet the individual and special needs of pupils who are taught in classes integrated with their peers. The school has an effective system of subject support to assist pupils experiencing difficulties in English, Mathematics and Science and to work individually in the LINK on basic skills. Additionally those pupils with Statements of Special Education Needs are given assistance across the curriculum from the support provided by the LEA.
The LINK personnel continually provide emotional support as needed and help with homework activities. Close partnership with parents is vitally important and parental visits to meet for planning and review with the Individual Needs Co-ordinator are actively encouraged.
