Pupils sample as many different media and techniques as possible, such as painting, pottery, collage, sgraffitit, paper mache, observational drawing and printing using pencil, powder paint, pen and ink, wax crayons, conte crayons, charcoal, coloured pencils and felt pens. Art appreciation also features strongly in their education. At the end of Year 9 students are able to choose Art as an option to gain a GCSE qualification. The two years course builds on previous skills and experiences to maximise achievement in the subject.
Is your child creative? Does (s)he enjoy using different materials and techniques to produce original images and artefacts? The Art department at Willowgarth believes that people who participate in artistic activities tend to have a more balanced personality and lead happier and more fulfilled lives.
The world is full of examples of creativity; objects, buildings, painting, sculptures etc, and so it is easy to see the potential for future employment by obtaining art qualifications.Drawing is a universal means of communication and always has been. Insights into cultures of past civilisations have been gained from such images as Egyptian hieroglyphics or the drawings in the caves at Lascaux.
BE SMART - GET INVOLVED WITH ART!
