Rewards and Discipline

►Rewards

It is our policy to recognise and reward a positive attitude in all aspects of school life. The following methods of praise and rewards are utilised at Willowgarth.

Positive certification to take home

Pupils receiving positives are entered into a termly prize draw

"Class acts" for groups of pupils who are working well together

Postcards sent home for individual pupils to recognise outstanding achievement or attitude

Financial reward for five post cards

End of year KS3 school trips to celebrate the achievements of pupils throughout the year

In addition to these, Achievement Coordinators have the sole aim of rewarding and encouraging pupils to achieve their true potential.

►Sanctions

Inevitably, pupils sometimes misbehave and, in such cases, sanctions are applied progressively, ranging from verbal reprimand to detentions of various lengths, removal from lessons to work in isolation for specified periods and, in rare cases, exclusion from school.

At each stage pupils have the opportunity to reflect on their conduct and avoid getting deeper into trouble. Parents are informed about all serious instances in order to give them the opportunity to support the school in its aims.

The Learning and Behaviour Support Unit (LSU) aims to be pro-active in order to avoid problemative behaviour in the future.
