Rewards and Discipline

►Rewards
Every lesson during which a pupil behaves and works appropriately earns credit towards a reward in the form of a certificate, which is sent home to parents each term. Those pupils who excel receive special awards - e.g. opportunities for special visits.

Since they are based not on ability, but on effort, commitment and cooperation, all pupils are equally capable of earning rewards. Once earned, rewards will never be taken away.

►Sanctions
In cases where rules are breached, sanctions are applied progressively, ranging from loss of reward to detentions of various lengths, removal from lessons to work in isolation for specified periods and, in rare cases, exclusion from school.

At each stage pupils have the opportunity to reflect on their behaviour and avoid getting deeper into trouble. Parents are informed about all instances of serious misbehaviour to give them the opportunity to support the school in its aims. In cases where pupils misbehave frequently, parents are asked to come to school to help us to find solutions. If necessary, such pupils are excluded from school until the meeting with their parents has taken place.

N.B.: sanctions do not apply to Year 7 pupils until the second week in order to give them the opportunity to learn what is expected of them. Back to top
