General Introduction

Mr. Heseltine (Assistant Head) is responsible for all matters relating to:-
the supervision of pupils: attendance, discipline, pastoral care and liaison with parents.
Please keep us informed of any factor or event which might affect (for better or worse) your child's happiness at school or his/her ability to learn. We are naturally anxious to assist our pupils to realise fully their potential both socially and intellectually. For everyone there are times when allowances need to be made, or when a little extra encouragement or sympathy is needed.
We shall always try to be flexible and to respond where special needs are known to us. We should be grateful if letters dealing with routine matters, absence notes etc, could be addressed to your child's Form Tutor. We ask parents wishing to discuss a particular problem to contact the appropriate Head of Year. The Head of Year can then arrange for an interview with the relevant members of staff.
We are always pleased to welcome parents and other visitors to the school, though to avoid interruptions to our work we do ask visitors to make an appointment to see the Headteacher or other members of staff. Please do not hesitate to contact us about any problem or matter of concern.

  The Educational Welfare Officers
The school is served by two educational welfare officers Mrs. K. Dudley and Ms. S. Wooller who, in conjunction with the school, are responsible for ensuring that children attend school regularly and punctually. They are also responsible for vetting the employment of school age children to ensure that it does not breach the statutory guidelines and for issuing work permits. Parents should note that BMBC by-laws do not permit children under the age of 13 to work.

We will keep you informed about your child's attendance. Mrs. Chisholm, pictured here, coordinates the recording of school attendance and identifies areas which need attending to.
Go to the Parents' Extra Page for specific and more detailed information. You will also find links to web sites which may be of use to you as a parent.
Willowgarth in the 1950s and early 60s
Willowgarth was then known as Brierley-Grimethorpe Secondary Modern School. The Main Hall and Main Block (A block today) are the areas visible.

If anyone has any old photographs of the school, its staff and pupils from these decades, and would like to make them available to the web site, please let us know.
