INTEGRATED LEARNING COMMUNITY PROJECT
Barnsley learning Centre Network Study Support Project
The NSPCC Integrated Learning Community Project, building on the development of Willowgarth Befriender Project, has been operating in the Brierley Ward since November 1999.
We will be working with children and young people of 8-16 years old in the area with a view to offering a wide range of activities to support the development of confidence and self esteem, and address keys skills in helping young people to achieve their individual potential and help raise attainment including :
· Arts Projects
· Creative IT Projects
· Information and Support
· Homework Support
· Complementary Curriculum Projects
· Sport and Leisure
· Adventurous Activities
· Transition Support
· Peer Support
Through participation in the project young people will be able to access, or receive support for a range of accreditation opportunities including :
· Youth Achievement Award
· Duke of Edinburgh's Award
· Open College Network
· NSPCC Internal Certification
Study Support in the Brierley Ward will consist of :
· Provision for lunch time and / or out of hours activities at 4 named sites :
The Befriender Project Willowgarth
Lunchtime activities over three days a week - taster sessions introducing the arts, health issues, experiential curriculum topics. The aim being to have a go at something new and if young people want to do more we will organise an after school short programme.
NSPCC Office The Acorn Centre
For after school activities linked to accreditation, developing new skills, meeting new people, having fun.
Grimethorpe Library The Acorn Centre
With a particular focus on homework support Monday and Thursday from 3.30 pm to 5.00 pm.
Experiential curriculum based topics and school holiday activities.
Outreach in the Brierley Area
Making contact with Brierley children through the primary school until a building based venue is identified. Linking to the school curriculum and providing after school activities.
Curriculum/Outreach and Transition Projects in Willowgarth and the seven feeder Primary Schools :
A particular focus being to support the transition of Year 6 pupils into Secondary School through the Befriender Project. Each year the Befrienders, Year 9 pupils trained in peer support, make contact with Year 6 pupils to build relationships and offer support through the move and in their first year at Secondary School.
Outreach projects so far this year have included poetry and mural work and after school art activities.
Cudworth Homework Spot Cudworth Library
Tuesdays 4 pm to 6 pm in collaboration with Barnsley Community Learning Youth Service. Arts activities, Curriculum activities.

Confidentiality
The relationships built through our work often provides young people with a space to talk about concerns, issues, problems. Working as part of the NSPCC Barnsley Schools Service we are operating to the confidentiality policy as set by the Service.
Copies of the policy can be seen in our centres or obtained from the Schools Service at the above address.
Young people can also access support through our Project for referral on to the Schools Counsellors or other agencies in the area.
