30 Oct 2003 - Willowgarth win the Wincanton Health & Safety Challenge

Congratulations go to Year 9 (2003/3) for winning the inter-school Wincanton Health & Safety Challenge.

An intra-school competition was organised with 40 pupils working in small groups who investigated accidents at Willowgarth and presented their findings and recommendations of how accidents can be reduced to an audience. Five pupils were chosen from this to represent the school in the inter-school challenge.

The challenge involved pupils firstly visiting Wincanton's Barnsley site. After this they wrote a 300 word report, designed an information board to encourage Wincanton staff to reduce accidents and presented their findings and recommendations at Ardsley House to an audience of approximately 300 people.

Wincanton described Willowgarth's winning display as 'very effective and eye-catching, with an innovative new character, "Gary Glassback", rather than using existing characters. The drawings and graphics were excellent and the board had humour, which would appeal to staff'.
