Policy
►Equal Opportunities Policy
Willowgarth is a comprehensive school which seeks to treat all its pupils and staff with equal regard and to afford every member of its community the dignity and respect which is theirs by right. We seek to offer each of our pupils (regardless of race, gender, disability, belief or background) equal access to a range of opportunity. The school does not and will not operate any form of restriction on admission. Back to top►Pupil Grouping
The school supports the Barnsley LEA policy for comprehensive education which embraces equal access for all pupils to a broad and balanced curriculum and aims to provide the necessary support to meet the specific needs of individual children. To this end, the school adopts the following pupil grouping strategy:* mixed ability grouping without subject setting in year 7
* mixed ability grouping in years 8 and 9 with subject setting according to two criteria:
a) where the syllabus will lead to significantly differentiated test or examination papers (eg in mathematics, science),
b) where pupils are expected to cover an additional subject within the subject's basic time allocation (eg MFL, English Literature).
* subject timetable blocking - as far as possible - in upper school to allow departments to group according to the needs of each subject in Key Stage 4. Back to top
►Schemes of Work
Departmental schemes of work should show provision for pupils with special educational needs - backed by the support of the Individual Needs Department - which allows for individual curriculum modification and offers, wherever possible, individual learning support without undue discrimination or labelling.Where appropriate to the subject content, work should promote positive attitudes toward individual differences (eg religion, politics, race, gender).
