Introduction
Here are brief outlines of some of the special responsibilities of a few key personnel. These are not detailed job descriptions, rather, a guide as to whom to consult about particular matters. Back to top
Headteacher: Tony Loveday
Ethos, policy and strategy, governors; staffing/staff development; finance; external relations - LEA, feeder schools, parents, community, OFSTED. The day-to-day operation of the school: calendar; all matters relating to the supervision of pupils: attendance, discipline and pastoral care, liaison with parents, support services and feeder schools, staff and bus duties; co-ordinating the work of the pastoral teams. Deputy Head:
All matters relating to the academic curriculum: NC; options; homework and assessment; co-ordinating the work of departments; the timetable; examination results; leave of absence; cover and supply staff. Back to top
Assistant Head
All matters relating to pupils' personal development; the development curriculum; vocational education; Compact; marketing; press haison; school events and publicity;
Friends' Association; community, FE/HE, industry and commerce links; Youth Forum. Back to top
IT Systems Manager
IT systems for management, administration and reporting - development, updating and training. The intranet and the internet site Back to top
Individual Needs Co-ordinator: Sharon Chamberlain
All matters relating to pupils' individual needs: diagnosis of need, review of statements, co-ordination of school-based assessment, provision of support and management of support staff liaison with parents agencies, departments and feeder schools, individual education plans; child abuse liaison teacher. Examinations Officer: Jayne Carr
All matters relating to examinations, entries and examination boards; organisation and conduct of examinations; examination statistics; recovery of fees. Back to top
Admin Officer: Joy Fletcher
Supervision of school's funds; supervision and direction of the school office staff; day-to-day-administration; official returns; co-ordinating the work of all non-teaching staff; stock; reprographics. Back to top
Finance Officer: Sandra Bennett
Monitoring of expenditure; ordering; monitoring of petty cash (postage). Back to top
Premises Manager: Stephen Clough
Repair and maintenance of the school; decoration and cleaning; the caretaking staff; liaison with cleaning, ground maintenance and works DSOs and with other contractors; furniture and fittings; security; lettings; health and safety; emergency procedures/drills. Back to top
Heads of Department
Progress of pupils and the support of teachers within the subject area; curriculum development; syllabuses and schemes of work; teaching styles; quality of curriculum delivery; and methods; examination recommendations and results; discipline within the classroom; requisitions; assessment; subject reports; standards of work and teaching in the subject; liaison with subject colleagues in the feeder schools. Year Heads/Heads of School
Welfare and discipline of pupils in the year group; assemblies; pupil records and reports; individual guidance with options; consultation with parents and support agencies; liaison (transfer) with college and feeder schools; Compact; references; co-ordinating the work of form tutors. Back to top
Form Tutors
Registration; class administration and all routine matters relating to welfare, attendance and punctuality of pupils in the tutor group, including contact with parents; uniform checks; individual advice and counselling (options, personal development, etc.); assistance to colleagues with minor discipline problems; Form Tutor (PHSE) programme and pupil review.
