The Prefects System
Prefects
This is an important area of the school. Willowgarth introduced a Prefect system in September 1996 after a period of consultation with staff, governors and pupils.The system aims to:
* Give pupils more responsibility
* Increase pupils' feeling of ownership of the school
* Support the positive side of DFL
* Support staff
* Provide positive role models for younger pupils
* Strengthen RoA and Compact goals
* Reward pupils for their positive contributions to the school.
All pupils are encouraged to complete an application in the final term of Year 10. Applications are then measured against the agreed criteria of good attendance, correct attitude, acceptable appearance and satisfactory conduct (all Compact goals).
Successful pupils will be awarded a distinctive black tie. Pupils are divided into teams with a team captain who has the responsibility of organising his/her team. A Head boy and Head girl are chosen by the staff.
The Prefects' role is to:
* Assist duty staff with break and early morning duties
* Bring to the attention of staff any concerns about the day to day running of the school and make recommendations if applicable
* Show visitors around school on special occasions
* Be represented at parents' evenings/presentation evenings/open days
* Assist with lunch and after school activities
The Prefects are required to complete a Prefect referral sheet if any concerns are reported to them by other pupils.
The above Prefects will meet weekly with the Assistant Head to offer relevant feedback.
Prefects are allocated a social area and are responsible for keeping this area clean and tidy at all times. Back to top
