Statement

Our Aims
We aim to:
a) create a school environment in which our children feel safe, secure and valued;
b) develop our children's awareness of and pride in their talents and abilities;
c) support our children through effective teaching and guidance in developing their talents and abilities as fully as possible;
d) empower our children to make constructive decisions about their future education, careers and lifestyles;
e) develop in our children the commitment both to exploiting the advantages and fulfilling the responsibilities attendant upon living in a modern democracy. Back to top
Achieving the goals
The following principles and strategies provide the means to achieve the goals the school has set itself

* a broad, balanced and challenging curriculum for all, consistent with the ethos of a comprehensive school and embracing the National Curriculum and the Barnsley Entitlement Curriculum
* within this framework, the opportunity for diversity
* teacher concern for students which demonstrates parity of esteem regardless of ability, gender or background
* the entitlement for all to work toward an appropriate range of academic and vocational qualifications
* the recognition and accreditation of all student achievement, within or outside the prescribed curriculum
* enhance students' personal skills to enable them to benefit from those opportunities open to them
* increase the involvement of the business and industrial communities in the work of the school across all subject areas.
* work experience placements for all, supported by a programme of careers and personal education
* departmental schemes of work which:

a. look to the balanced development of oracy, numeracy, graphicacy and literacy promote positive attitudes toward individual differences (religion, politics, race, gender, etc.)
b. offer students as wide a range as possible of learning opportunity and experience (indoor, outdoor, group, individual, classwork, homework, library, enterprise, etc.)
c. foster team spirit and co-operation
d. allow discussion of real and controversial issues of concern and seek to promote a balanced understanding, sympathy and collaboration provide for appropriate curriculum modification for students with special educational needs and for individual support and counselling without undue discrimination or labelling
* departmental assessment policies which recognise (RoA) and encourage achievement and which lead to the development of self-assessment and responsible action planning. Back to top
