The school provides 24 hours 10 minutes of lesson time (excluding registration/Form Tutor time) per week. The Department for Education recommends 24 hours.
Many pupils arrive at school earlier than the beginning of the school day - some as early as 8.05 am. It has been our policy to open part of the buildings to these pupils at this time, rather than leaving children standing outside in inclement weather.
However, parents must understand that it is not possible to provide formal supervision before 8.20 a.m.
At 8.20 am duty staff are present in their respective areas of the school, whilst other teachers attend a daily briefing. At approximately 8.30 am all staff move to their tutor bases in preparation for registration.
Experience shows that pupils admitted to the buildings before 8.30 am are sensible and well-behaved. Were this not so, we should be forced to reconsider our policy of opening the school at this time.
