A message from our Headteacher
Thank you for your interest in Willowgarth High School.
At Willowgarth we enjoy our traditions of success and creativity. We are able to select those innovations that we feel are most appropriate whilst keeping the best of the tried and tested.
As a result we are convinced that the education we provide is relevant to the needs of your child as he or she grows up in the 21st Century.
The happiness of your son or daughter is of supreme importance to me and all the staff at Willowgarth. We know that a happy child is more likely to meet any challenges we set as a matter of course. This happiness is achieved by ensuring a safe, friendly, focused environment for your child. Your son or daughter will be inspired by the wide choice of opportunities, activities and facilities.
The continued record successes of Willowgarth as a school are built firmly on the quality of the relationships that exist within its community. Respect between people is valued very highly. Boys and girls can develop easy relationships with their peers and a cherrful respect for adults.
Similarly Willowgarth Staff act as good role models for the children in their own relationships with one another.
Firstly, in recent years we have enjoyed immense support from the local and the wider community; in particular, we have cultivated a spirit of genuine partnership with the parents of our pupils. Secondly, our pupils have in abundance the generosity of spirit, the good humour and the down-to-earth approach to life for which this area is renowned. Thirdly, the Willowgarth staff have developed into a formidable team, the leadership of which is an immense privilege and pleasure. With parents, pupils and staff working selflessly and in partnership to a common purpose, the school is now truly a community in its own right. We provide a safe and secure environment where children can develop and flourish and take pride in their achievements.
Working in partnership with North East Barnsley Learning Alliance we are able to offer Vocational Options, to Year 9 students. Each student may choose to apply for one of the courses. There will be a limited number of places available for each course. Course hours are not the same as our normal school day as College usually finishes at 4pm. A Barnsley College based course will mean attendance during the normal GCSE exam period (May and June) of year eleven to complete modules.
Successful applicants will be informed.
